November One Four Challenge – Week Two

We are in the second week of our One Four Challenge.  This month it is coordinated by Nic, a talented photo editor, while our usual host Robyn Gosby of Captivate Me is resting her injured back.  It is time to return to my dragonfly.

Week Two Process

This week I have decided to turn my image into a watercolour, using the FotoSketcher software.  It feels a little lazy but the dragonfly is quite painterly and lends itself to this treatment.

Here is the result:

Dragonfly – Week 2

The pattern in the wings has been preserved and yet the watercolour has the effect of brightening the overall image and softening the background grasses.  If you click on the image, you will get a better view of the effect. and texture,  What do you think?

Here is the progression to date:

  1. I have mixed feelings about the watercolor effect. There is a part of me that really likes the natural background of last week’s version. This week’s version softens the detail a bit, but retains most of them and the watercolor background is nice. The way that you present the versions in the slide show is awesome–it allows me to see the differences more clearly. Great job, Chris. I can’t wait to see what you do with the image next week.

  2. This is an excellent treatment – the more I see of some apps, the more I am impressed how cool and clever they are.

    • Yes I quite like Fotosketcher, it has some interesting effects and is dead easy to use. I like painting with watercolours and this allows me to play in both the photographer and painter’s camp.
